The climate needs bright minds. The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) addresses crucial scientific questions in the fields of global change, climate impacts and sustainable development. For the communications team, PIK is looking for a


Communications Professional (m/f/d)

(Position number: 47-2024 Communications Professional)


starting on 01.11.2024 or as soon as possible afterwards.


The position is offered for 2 years (with the option of permanent employment) with a weekly working time of up to 36 hours per week. Remuneration is in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13.


Key responsibilities:

 

     

  • Raising PIKs science presence in international media;
  • Maintaining and expanding relationships with international media outlets;
  • Designing and editing popular science and science-policy Op-Eds in English;
  • Advising the Board of Directors and senior scientists regarding communication matters;
  • Writing English press releases on scientific studies;
  • Organising and conducting press briefings in English;
  • Accompanying high-level visits and events.

Requirements:

 

     

  • A successfully completed degree in communications, journalism, public relations (Master’s/Diploma or equivalent) or comparable qualifications;
  • An additional degree in economics or natural sciences is desirable – but not mandatory. Several years of professional experience in communication in science and/or journalism;
  • Excellent English language skills, preferably native;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the relevant international media landscape;
  • Excellent ability to write texts of various types for different target groups in English;
  • Good knowledge of Earth Systems Science and International Climate Policy.
